Why showcasing your design is essential

Part 1 in our ‘Behind Mail’ette’ series

It’s Friday afternoon and as I’m winding down, I realised we’ve been in BETA for two whole months and I’ve never explained ‘why’ we’re building Mail’ette!

It’s actually a little surprising, but a great testament to Mail’ette working how we imagined, with users quickly seeing how it can help. But for the record (if you’re yet to sign-up: ) I want to share why we built Mail’ette, initially for our own design agency….so let’s get into it with ‘why showcasing is essential’.

Let me throw a question out there:

Do you know ‘how’ clients see your designs?

Here are a few scenarios we often see:
- In an email body, mixed around and not near browser size
- In an image viewing program at random sizes
- Singular, meaning not next to another design you want them to compare

How to showcase designs to clients.

Naturally if you have loads of time you can host designs / mock-ups in a members areas or dedicated page. This is actually awesome & we used to do it in our design agency, but it’s a LOT of work. There’s also other options such as pure file sharing apps like YouSendIt and Dropbox, but again there’s no ‘showcasing’ involved here, purely file hosting.

Here’s what I mean by showcasing, this took a few minutes:

What are the benefits?

Now, here comes the juicy part. If you can elegantly *showcase* your designs, clients will tend to say ‘Yes’ a lot quicker & easier. This is no different than a display cabinet for a jewellery store or car showroom. These companies build the showcase area to highlight their product & their branding, not just for the initial sale, but for repeat business too.

Really showcasing your designs is essential, email a few designs to Mail’ette to see what I’m talking about. Don’t forget to custom brand your Mail’ette & URL to make sure your agency is at the forefront. I’d also love it if you sent me a link to one of your Mail’ettes, so I can see how Mail’ette looks with your designs – adam@mailette.com
